What are the risks of destroying the ozone?

The U.V. radiations that the Ozone layer shields from earth will no doubtely have a negative effect on all living organisms. Everything from humans to the tiniest plankton will be affected.

Lack of Food:

The ultraviolet light will kill off small plankton and small microscopic organisms that live on the bottom of the food chain. Enevatably, the species above the plankton (in the food chain) will have a lack of food, a domino effect will occur. Eventually, humans, at the top of the food chain could suffer.

Plants will also have a negative effect. The natural supply of nitrogen might be lower causeing plants to grow slower and smaller. Again, less food will follow; for those who live off vegitation would not be able to survive (due to the lack of plants), and once again, the domino effect will occur.

Human Health:

Not only will humans be affected because of the food depletion, they will also be affected physically. Some physical affects to humans may include:
early aging
eye damage (ex: cateracts)
damage to immune system (both human and animal)
skin cancer
snow blindness

Wearing of materials:

A few examples of materials that will wear easier and faster:
house siding
pipes
gutters
windows
wooden decks
furniture
complete building structures

So next time you are knowingly destroying the ozone, and thinking "I'm only one person, how much harm can I do?", just stop and think of what life could be like in your future, your children's future, and even your grandchildren's future.
